We use a check list to make sure you are competent in all areas that the examiner may test you on. Each driving test is different and examiners will randomly pick different skills that they would like to see you demonstrate. It is crucial that you are capable of performing each, not just for the test but once you are out on the road on your own, you will need to perform all of these on a regular basis. Hill starts, parallel parking and three point turns are essential manoeuvres that will need under your belt.
For your first driving lesson, whether you have been practising with a family member already or not, we will take you to a quite road where you will not be distracted by many other road users. This gives you a chance to familiarise yourself with the controls of the car in a comfortable setting and to practise a few essential skills such as braking and moving up through the gears, if you have chosen manual lessons. We will then venture out on to slightly busier roads so that you can drive in traffic and ‘real life’ situations.
As your lessons progress we will take you to unfamiliar routes, test you on road signs and ensure that you have enough driving experience so that you are ready to take your test. Although we like to push our students, we do not pressurise them. We will work at a pace that you are comfortable with and when ready, we will let you know when it’s a good time to think about booking your tests.
