Intensive Driving Lessons from hamilton driving school
Structured lessons for New Drivers
Hamilton is a long-established driving school and we take care to ensure every aspect of your driving lessons are as comfortable and beneficial as possible. You can choose your instructor, your type of car (manual or automatic), when you would like lessons, where you would like to be picked up from and whether you would like a friend or family member in the car with you.
Our aim is for you to pass your driving test as soon as possible but although we will challenge you to improve with each lesson, you will not be pushed. Steady progress is required for you to feel comfortable driving and acquire skills that will last you for the rest of your life.
Once lessons are underway, we will evaluate you and let you know when we think you should aim to take your test. We can help you with all aspects of booking your theory and hazard perception test, and you practical driving test. Once your practical test has been booked, we recommend that you use the same car that you have been learning in so that everything is familiar as possible for the actual test.
Learning to drive is a fun but sometimes daunting experience so our driving instructors are trained and experienced to help you progress, no matter how much experience you already have.
The initial drive with your driving instructor will be in a quiet residential area to allow you to get used to a different car. At the same time, we can assess the standard reached so far and work out a programme to take you forward. So from previous experience to the new should be a smooth transition and further progress can develop naturally.
Our driving instructors are calm and patient, allowing you to progress with your driving skills in a relaxed environment. You can visit our instructors page to see profiles of each of our driving instructors or visit our recommendations page for testimonials from previous pupils.

It is surprising how many drivers stop or discontinue driving lessons for one reason or another. The longer the break lasts the more difficult to overcome an ever increasing loss of confidence. It seems as if you have forgotten everything. We are here to help. You have the skills hidden in the back of your mind and we can bring them out again.
We will begin as if you have never driven before and take you forward at a pace you find comfortable. After a few lessons you will have the confidence to get back on the road again on your own.
We offer in car theory training on a one to one basis. This can be very helpful if you suffer with learning difficulties or dyslexia. Learning theory and having practical driving lessons at the same time is the best way forward as one helps develop the other. The driving theory test puts you through your paces, examining whether you understand the various types of road signs, traffic law, what to do in various situations on the road and your knowledge of speed limits. It is a compulsory part of learning to drive and many people struggle to pass this on their first attempt. We can help you with this by offering guidance including recommending online learning resources and apps that include example multiple choice tests. This will build up your knowledge and give you the confidence to pass and take your test.
Motorway driving is restricted to qualified license holders under present legislation. It is included as one of the modules for PassPlus once you have passed you driving test. If you prefer, motorway lessons can be covered as an individual topic. Normally the instruction is arranged as a two-hour lesson to allow for getting to and from the nearest motorway.
Motorway lessons are popular as part of our refresher course for the experienced driver who hasn't driven regularly or for a long time.

In our latest blog about driving lessons and learning to drive, we talk about the factors that make a good driver.
Few of us can wait and as soon as we get to our seventeenth birthday, we cannot wait to get behind the wheel and start learning to drive but few of us appreciate what skills it really takes to become a competent driver, until we're much older.
Patience The first and the most important quality of a good driver is patience. Most road traffic accidents are caused by impatience. Impatience can lead to several unpleasant occurrences. Impatience leads to over-speeding and you know the likely consequences of over-speeding.
It is also impatience that will make a driver try to beat the traffic light or refuse to stop on seeing the red light. This act alone can lead to a head-on collision with a vehicle going across as your own red light means a green light to some other motorists coming across.
Discipline Every driver has to have some level of discipline if he wants to succeed in passing his driving test. It is discipline that will prevent him from disobeying traffic rules and regulations. It is also discipline that makes him obey traffic officers. Not only that, it also helps a driver prevent himself from taking dangerous decisions like driving under the influence of alcohol.
In fact, some drivers do not get drunk at all, whether he is planing on driving or not just-in-case an emergency arises.
Responsible A good driver takes responsibility for all his actions whether behind the wheels or not. It is true that nobody is beyond making mistakes but a good driver admits his mistakes, takes responsibility and also makes necessary corrections to prevent something similar happening again.
Keeping sharp Staying alert behind the wheel is highly important. Do not let yourself become distracted with the radio or making calls whilst in the car. Believe it or not some people carry on their lives as if they were not driving - even eating or putting on make-up whilst travelling at 70mph!
Proper care A very good driver ensures that his vehicle is in top condition all of the time. If there is a fault and he can’t fix immediately, he does not use the car until the fault is fixed. Imagine driving car with a faulty horn. Isn’t that the height of carelessness?
